Presiden Donald Trump bersedia mengalihkan kepemimpinan AS ke tangan presiden terpilih Joe Biden. Dalam cuitan Twitternya, Trump mengungkapkan bahwa Badan Pelayanan Umum AS diminta melakukan transisi agar Joe Biden dapat mengendalikan kepemimpinan pada Januari 2021 mendatang. ”Silakan apa yang perlu dilakukan,” tulis Presiden Trump, Senin 23 November lalu.
Keputusan itulah yang memungkinkan Emily Murphy, Kepala Badan Pelayanan Umum, GSA untuk melakukan proses transisi secara formal.
Sebelumnya, belum ada tanda-tanda Presiden Trump hendak mengalihkan kekuasaan ke tangan Joe Biden. Harian The New York Times menyebutkan pula bahwa sejumlah staf Gedung Putih yang mendorong agar Presiden Trump melakukan proses pengalihan kekuasaan. ”Beliau tidak perlu mengungkapkan kata ‘menyerah’,” tutur sejumlah sumber harian itu. Beberapa bulan sebelumnya, Trump bersikeras untuk tetap bertahan di Gedung Putih.
Sementara itu, sekitar 160 eksekutif top AS mengimbau Presiden Trump untuk mengizinkan tim Joe Biden melakukan persiapan pengalihan kekuasaan 20 Januari nanti. Di antara ke-160 eksekutif itu, terdapat sejumlah penyumbang dana bagi Partai Republik, partai pendukung Donald Trump.
Dari Gedung Putih tersiar kabar sejumlah pengawal kepresidenan ditawari untuk pindah tugas ke Palm Beach, Florida. Di sanalah, Presiden Trump akan bertempat tinggal setelah tidak lagi menjadi orang nomor satu AS. Sumber di ABC News mengungkapkan, kantor pengawal kepresidenan Florida juga mulai menerapkan peraturan ketat di Mar-a-Largo, tempat peristirahatan Trump yang dikenal dengan sebutan ”The Winter White House”.
Serangkaian upaya renovasi juga tengah berlangung di Mar-a-Lago untuk mempersiapkan tempat peristirahatan itu menjadi tempat tinggal tetap Presiden Trump, bersama ibu negara Melania Trump. Meski begitu, Trump sekali-kali akan terbang ke Bedminster, New Jersey dan New York untuk main golf, olahraga kesukaannya.
Seorang petugas kepolisian New York mengungkapkan kepada ABC News bahwa pada 21 Januari 2021 nanti, jajaran kepolisian New York, akan bekerjasama dengan kantor pengawal kepresidenan. Antara lain, mengurangi petugas keamanan yang kini masih ditempatkan di seputar Trump Tower, Manhattan, NY. Kawasan itu akan lebih longgar dan kendaraan umum diizinkan melintas kembali di sepanjang Fifth Avenue.
Sedangkan persimpangan 56th Street dengan Trump Tower akan segera dibuka untuk lalu lintas umum, sehingga kemacetan di Midtown bisa diurai. (DP)
