Meet the $14,000 smartphone

Techinasia.com — In April, secretive high-end smartphone manufacturer Sirin Labs announced it had raised US$72 million in funding. The startup’s goal was to engineer a futuristic smartphone which would be more secure, private, and technologically advanced than any other device.

Earlier this week the startup unveiled its first product. Sirin Labs calls it “the world’s first truly smart phone.”

Titled “Solarin,” the phone will retail for an eye-watering US$14,000. It arrives after two years of painstaking research and development with military grade 256-bit AES encryption, titanium panels, and metal composite chassis. The team at Sirin Labs adds Solarin is constructed from materials normally used in the defence and aerospace industries.

“Cyberattacks are endemic across the globe […] Just one attack can severely harm reputations and finances. Solarin is pioneering new, uncompromising privacy measures to provide customers with greater confidence and the reassurance necessary to handle business-critical information,” explains Tal Cohen, CEO and co-founder of Sirin Labs.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and supports 24 LTE bands. It comes with a 23.8 megapixel camera with a 5.5” IPS LED 2K screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It’s aimed squarely at high net-worth individuals and top business executives.
