Penganiayaan terjadi ketika sejumlah pengawal Angin Prayitno Aji menuduh Nurhadi masuk tanpa izin ke acara resepsi pernikahan anak Angin di Gedung Graha Samudera Bumimoro (GSB) di kompleks Komando Pembinaan Doktrin Pendidikan dan Latihan TNI Angkatan laut (Kodiklatal) Surabaya, Jawa Timur, pada Sabtu 27 Maret 2021 malam. Setelah semua berkas penyidikan lengkap, Tempo menuntut pelakunya dibawa ke meja hijau untuk menerima hukuman yang setimpal, sesuai peraturan perundang-undangan yang berlaku.
Tempo juga meminta Kapolri Jenderal Listyo Sigit Prabowo untuk memerintahkan jajarannya di Divisi Profesi dan Pengamanan Mabes Polri untuk memproses pelaku secara disiplin profesi dan memastikan kasus ini merupakan aksi kekerasan terakhir yang dilakukan polisi terhadap jurnalis.
Tempo juga meminta bantuan Lembaga Perlindungan Saksi dan Korban (LPSK), Komisi Nasional untuk Hak Asasi Manusia (Komnas HAM) dan Dewan Pers, untuk melindungi korban dari ancaman kekerasan lebih lanjut dan mengawal proses hukum atas kasus ini.
