Ceritanya, sekitar tahun 2017, atau setahun kemudian saya mencoba mendapatkan visa itu di Surabaya, Jawa Timur. Sebelum berangkat, saya mendapatkan informasi dan bantuan dari KJRI New York yang sangat membantu. Saya memang akan membuka usaha clothing (pakaian jadi) di Surabaya.
Di Kantor Imigrasi Surabaya, tidak seorang petugas pun yang tahu tentang visa ini. Saya pun pergi ke Kota Bandung, atas saran salah satu keluarga. Setelah berkonsultasi dengan Jakarta, pihak imigrasi Bandung menyarankan saya mendaftarkan langsung lewat layanan online.

Baru hari ketiga, setelah menunggu lama, saya diberi nomor konfirmasi. Total prosesnya menelan waktu 7 hari. Itu pun saya bisa ambil di Singapura, karena saya ada keperluan bisnis. Di kota itu saya perlu dua hari untuk mendapatkan visa ini.
Sementara itu, WNA tidak bisa membeli properti dengan status Hak Milik di Indonesia. Yang bisa dibeli hanyalah apartemen dengan status Hak Guna Pakai, dengan harga berbeda di tiap kota. Jakarta misalnya dipatok harga minimum Rp 2,5 miliar, sedangkan di Bandung dan Surabaya, WNA boleh membeli properti dengan harga minimal Rp 500 juta sampai Rp 750 juta.
Saya tidak bisa membeli apartemen sehingga jalan pintasnya adalah menggunakan atas nama sanak keluarga yang WNI. Saya kembali ke AS, dan tidak melanjutkan usaha pakaian jadi yang sudah saya bangun selama 2 tahun di Indonesia. (Dituturkan Luthfi Madjid/DP).
