Sikap Anti Asia dan warga Pacifik semakin marak di seluruh AS belakangan ini. Sejak pandemi Covid-19 merebak di dunia tahun 2019, aksi kekerasan terhadap warga Asia dan Pasifik tercatat setinggi 10 ribu kali.
Termasuk bulan Maret 2021 dengan terbunuhnya 6 wanita Asia di Atlanta, Georgia. Demikian juga yang terjadi di Southeastern Pennsylvania. Di antaranya aksi kekerasan terhadap sejumlah remaja Asia di rangkaian gerbong bawah tanah, November 2021.
Untuk melawan aksi kekerasan itu, kelompok AAPI atau Anti-Asian and Pacific Islander, menyerukan agar warga komunitas Asia melaporkan peristiwa kekerasan dan kriminal yang terjadi di sekitarnya. Pada pukul 12.00 siang Jumat 6 Januari 2023, warga Asia diminta menyuarakan sikap anti-kekerasan terhadap AAPI. Antara lain dengan melaporkan setiap tindak kekerasan, baik peristiwa yang telah terjadi, juga ancaman yang mungkin diterima, ke nomor telepon 911. Media massa lokal juga diminta untuk menyiarkan secara serentak pada jam 12.00.
Di telepon penting itu, warga Asia dapat berbicara dalam berbagai bahasa. Mulai Vietnam, Indonesia, Korea, Khmer dan China. Mereka juga dapat melaporkan para korban yang menjadi aksi kekerasan anti-Asia. ‘’Jangan takut. Anda tidak ditanya apakah sudah berstatus legal atau tidak. Yang penting anda bisa melapor,’’ ujar Pastor Tenny Landena, wakil diaspora Indonesia untuk kawasan Philadelphia.
Hampir seluruh badan dan organisasi pemerintah mendukung upaya ini. Termasuk Philadelphia Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), the SEPTA Transit Police Department, the Philadelphia Asian American Advisory Committee dan the Asian American Chambers of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia.
