On Friday, May 8th, at Xfinity Live! Casino & Hotel, business leaders, community members, and elected officials celebrated AAPI month with its annual APPI Heritage Month Gala hosted by the Asian American Business Alliance of Greater Philadelphia (AABAGP). The AABAGP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, created to strengthen the Philadelphia regional economy through business expansion, job creation, investment attraction, and pro-business advocacy.
The event kicked off with an exciting drum performance from Jaison Youth Drum Group, and was moderated by Emcee Lorraine Ballard Morrill & Co-Emcee Oceane Qian-Feuillat. Welcoming remarks were conducted by Former Councilman David Oh, Board Chair of the AABAGP, and AABAGP President Ken Wong. Throughout the night, there were live performances from an Indian dance performance by Laasya Dance Academy, a musical performance by Camille K, and a Kazakh fashion show.
Elected officials were also in attendance, such as PA State Senator Joe Picozzi, Philadelphia City Councilman Jim Harrity, and Mark Squilla. AABAGP was presented with a Philadelphia City Council Resolution, and made a generous contribution to Penn Asian American Senior Services, Inc (PASSi) and Discovery Pathways, with the help of sponsors. The event also included a silent auction and concluded with closing remarks from Vice Chair Daler Khamidov and Secretary Susan Noh.
