Mulai Senin 18 April 2022, Philadelphia menerapkan kembali wajib mengenakan masker di dalam ruangan. Dalam pernyataan persnya, Cheryl Bettigole, Komisioner Kesehatan Kota Philadelphia menjelaskan kasus harian Covid-19 meningkat lebih 50% dalam periode 10 hari terakhir.
‘’Mulai hari ini, saya minta para pengusaha restoran dan lainnya memasang kembali tanda wajib bermasker di pintu masuknya,’’ kata Cheryl Bettigole. Jumlah penderita yang dirawat di rumah sakit masih sekitar 142 kasus, sehingga dengan mengenakan masker, ‘’Kami berharap agar jumlah kasusnya semakin menurun atau stabil,’’ lanjut Cheryl.
Secara nasional, kasus Covid-19 cenderung meningkat pada 25 dari 51 negara bagian AS. Per hari tercatat 34 ribu kasus baru, meski kasus harian masih terendah sejak pertengahan tahun lalu.
Menurut Badan Pengendalian dan Penanggulangan Penyakit menular AS, CDC, kasus Covid-19 di Philadelphia County, juga masih rendah. Namun Dr. Ashish Jha, koordinator Covid-19 di Gedung Putih mengungkapkan tidak menutup kemungkinan badan transportasi federal bakal menerapkan wajib bermasker di dalam armada transportasi dan angkutan umum.
Meski di luar ruangan masih longgar dan tak wajib masker, tapi ‘’Seruan bermasker tetap diumumkan di bis umum dan kereta bawah tanah di Philadelphia, setiap 15 menit,’’ tutur Ong Bun Kian, salah seorang penumpang transportasi umum. (DP)
