Family Batik Workshops
Side-by-side with your child, learn about the land of Indonesia and the magical art of batik. Experimenting with traditional tools, techniques, dyes, wax, and cotton, everyone will make several individual batik pieces to be sewn together into a family quilt or creation, as you wish. Prepare to make mistakes and masterpieces while discovering your and your child’s own creativity. It’s like Batik Camp!
Session One: June 27, 29, July 1 or Session Two: July 11, 13, 15; 1 – 4 PM each day
Cost: 3 days, 3 hours each day – $85 per person total, materials included. Minimum group size is 12, and you can come up with your own group of 12. I can work around your schedule, and we can make your own workshop!

Whether or not you consider yourself artistic, experimenting with batik will lead you to new discoveries about yourself and your creative process. With an understanding of the basic techniques of batik, you can explore a contemporary interpretation of this ancient medium. Prepare to play with the unpredictable, open yourself to the foreign culture of Indonesia, and work intensively on several pieces of batik. Get a feel for the fun and experimentation of batik and move beyond your artistic comfort zone!

I like how the workshop focuses on experimentation rather than requiring people to already be artistic. The idea of learning traditional batik techniques, working with different colors and materials, and creating something together with family sounds like a great way to spend a few days. It also reminds me how creative activities can be a good reason to explore new apps and tools for inspiration, and I’ve found happymod extra useful when looking through different Android apps and creative tools.
Batik seems like a great way to explore creativity through experimentation, especially with different colors, dyes, and patterns. I think tools like a brat generator can also be fun for experimenting with bold visual styles and seeing how simple ideas can turn into creative designs.
I agree that leaving room for unplanned moments often makes a trip more memorable than sticking rigidly to an itinerary. I’ve found that choosing just one or two priorities each day also makes it easier to enjoy local cafés, markets, and conversations without feeling rushed.
